Rene was born in New Orleans, LA and raised in Tampa, where he graduated from Christ the King Catholic School and H. B. Plant High School. He grew up watching his father, Jorge, as he prepared construction documents in their home. He would jump at the chance to visit construction sites with him. It was through watching his father's designs turn from drawing to built environments where Rene developed his early love for architecture. Upon graduating from high school and after working on several projects under Jorge's mentorship, Rene went on to work at Rañon and Partners then Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum prior to attending architecture school. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1996. A few weeks later He married his beautiful wife, Ami and they moved to Tampa. They were blessed with two boys, Nicholas and Benjamin.
Rene joined Gottfried + Garcia Architects in 1994 as an intern architect. In 2002, he became the first partner of the firm's founders. He currently serves as president of the corporation. Rene has extensive experience in many project types including commercial, education, institutional, medical, military, religious and residential. Rene is actively involved during all phases of each of the firm’s projects. This continues a tradition set forth by the firm’s co-founders of having one of the firm’s principals actively involved in the management of every project.
